THE DIASPORA HEALTHCARE INITIATIVE (DHI)
WHY THE DHI?
With relative peace and stability in Liberia,
many in the diaspora have been returning home by the numbers. Some are going to settle there for good while others are visiting, and staying for a few days, weeks, and sometimes, months. Most returnees are apprehensive about going back home, and toping their apprehension is the issue of adequate healthcare. The inadequacy of healthcare in Liberia leads to questions that cause sleepless nights. Some of these questions include: “what will happen to me when I get sick, what will happen to my family if they get sick”?
professionals, like Mrs. Irene Sekle-Momo who has been visiting Liberia since 2008; and rendering minimal healthcare services to the people. Among them are Mrs. Felecia Bessman and Mrs. Rose Kofa, who have been taking medical doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to conduct what I call, “hit and run” healthcare services. That is, when the healthcare professionals leave, most of the people that received treatment during the
healthcare events, are not followed and have no continuity of care. With the lack of continuity of care, our partner, Mrs. Sekle-Momo, has decided to return home for good, and establish the St. Michael’s Healthcare and Revival Center in Bomi County, outside of Monrovia.

Our Mission
The Diaspora Healthcare Initiative, in collaboration with Snohtee Helping Hand Ministry, Inc will exist to provide adequate, affordable, and accessible healthcare to Liberians, returning Diasporas, and residents of Liberia.
GOAL AND OBJECTIVES
Our goal is summed up in this statement by Mrs. Irene Sekle-Momo, the founder of Snothee Helping Hand, Mrs. Irene Sekle-Momo: “That Liberians will no more have to leave Liberia to seek better healthcare.” Yes, that is the long-term goal of the DHI. In addition, we envision that the DHI to become a healthcare system in Liberia that will be receiving and treating patients from neighboring countries. We will achieve this goal by appealing to many Liberian healthcare professionals in the Diaspora and friends of Liberia in the healthcare profession, as well as other disciplines, to make their expertise and resources available to the DHI, which in turns, will utilize them to accomplish its goal and objectives. Quoting former President Barak Obama in short,
can we? “Yes, we can.”
